Connecticut’s Best Kept Secrets
The   Second   Hand   Prose   bookshop   at   the   Miller   Library   is   sponsored   by   the   Friends   of   the Hamden   Library.   It’s   been   in   operation   since   the   nineteen   eighties.   It   offers   a   complete range   of   books,   CDs   and   DVDs   from   adventure,   fiction,   mystery,   business,   travel   and   more. At   any   time   there   are   ten   to   fifteen   thousand   titles   all   of   which   have   been   donated   by   the public.   Each   book   is   carefully   examined   to   ensure   that   it   is   in   pristine   condition.   Prices range   from   a   $1   to   $5   with   unannounced   deals.   All   proceeds   are   used   to   support   programs and other events offered by the library. Our Contributions to Library and Town Programs (This year the town has reduced the library budget by $30,000) We fund the children’s programs in all three branches. The purchase of supplies for special programs like art, book groups and any that need additional finances. Funds for purchasing new books, free family passes to over twenty three famous places, historical sites and cultural events. Supplement librarian’s salaries and contribute to the town budget.
